TIBETAN MASTIFF
Tibetan mastiffs are one of the most ancient dog breeds. However, the stock of pure-bred mastiffs has declined drastically as other lowland dogs are recently brought into the plateau and mixed with the mastiffs. Others extract the mastiffs from the plateau only for commercial gain. CERS launched several expeditions into the deepest corners of the plateau to secure true-blood mastiffs for the controlled breeding program. Now the dogs are kept in an exclusive kennel at an altitude of 3,500 meters and serve as studs to maintain the bloodline. Their descendants will be given systematically to Tibetan families in order to re-populate the plateau with these majestic dogs. Through these efforts, the marvelous breed of canine may someday uphold the integrity of the plateau again.
